The following local organizations are cancelling events because of concerns over the coronavirus:


UAPB postpones May graduation


The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is making plans for all graduating seniors to receive degrees since the May commencement has been postponed. The University of Arkansas System Board of Trustees voted to cancel or postpone all commencement exercises through June 1, 2020. Degrees will be mailed out after the degree certification process has been completed at the end of the semester. Additional information will be forthcoming on plans for graduates to participate in a ceremony later in the year, according to the UAPB website.


Democratic Women cancel meeting


Jefferson County Democratic Women will not meet in April. “Everyone, please be safe,” a spokeswoman said.


Police cancel Easter Egg Hunt, camp


The Pine Bluff Police Department has cancelled its Easter Egg Hunt and Police and Youth (PAY) Summer Camp, according to a news release from Sgt. Melissa Johnson.


White Hall Chamber cancels egg hunt


White Hall Chamber of Commerce’s annual Easter Egg Hunt has been postponed until further notice, according to a spokesman.


Chamber office closes


The Pine Bluff Regional Chamber of Commerce is temporarily closed to walk-in traffic as a safety precaution for the staff and community members. However, staff are there and working. Details: Lynette Bloomberg, at lynette@jeffersoncountyalliance.com or 870-535-0110.


Jefferson County offices closed; early voting allowed


Jefferson County Judge Gerald Robinson issued an Executive Order restricting public access to county facilities through April 4 to protect the health of county employees and the public. Early voting will still be conducted at the courthouse through Monday, March 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with no voting on Saturday or Sunday. The Jefferson County Clerk’s Office has implemented health screen strategies for the safety of Jefferson County voters.


Pine Bluff City Hall closed to public


Pine Bluff City Hall and all City departments and buildings were reopened March 23, however all city buildings will be closed to the public. Citizens may contact any department by phone at 870-730-2000.


Altheimer city hall lobby closes


The lobby at Altheimer City Hall will be closed due to the coronavirus concerns, according to a news release from Altheimer Mayor Zola Hudson. Residents may use the drop box at the front door to leave information. Details: 870-766-8229 or 870-329-4963.
