The Arkansas Blood Institute (ABI) has scheduled two drives at Jefferson Regional to obtain blood donations and conduct COVID-19 antibody screenings.

The drives will take place from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Thursday, May 21, and Thursday, May 28, in Jefferson Regional’s Henslee Conference Center.

Antibodies help the body fight infection, and the presence of antibodies could mean a person has had COVID-19 virus, even if no symptoms have been present. Donors with a positive antibody test could be eligible to donate convalescent plasma to help those who are critically ill with COVID-19. Jefferson Regional has used a significant amount of convalescent plasma during the pandemic, according to a news release.

The sessions are free, however an appointment is required for antibody testing. Results will take about a week to process and will be mailed to each donor. To sign up for antibody testing and blood donation, visit www.arkbi.org.
