An inmate from the Cummins Unit with COVID-19-related symptoms died at Jefferson Regional Medical Center Thursday, June 4, according to a news release from the Arkansas Department of Correction.

The department didn’t release the inmate’s name, but a spokeswoman said he had been living at the Cummins Unit before going to JRMC.

The inmate was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The person was undergoing treatment for COVID-related symptoms. The inmate was in his 70’s and serving a sentence for rape and second-degree sexual assault, according to the news release.

The spokeswoman didn’t give the name of the county where he was convicted nor any further details about the inmate.
