Sharnell Boykin, a student at Dollarway High School, recently won second place and $600 in a virtual art competition sponsored by Arkansas Rehabilitation Services (ARS).
“Sharnell is a rising senior at Dollarway High School and talented young artist,” according to a news release. “Her winning creation was a self portrait because she loves to draw people and upon graduation would like to study art.”
Due to the pandemic, students were unable to complete their assignments this spring, so they were challenged to compete in an art contest to fulfill their requirements, according to the release.
Dollarway School District congratulated Boykin.
“We are so proud of Sharnell for her accomplishment and we appreciate Arkansas Rehabilitation Services for providing opportunities to all of our students,” a spokesman said.
The mission of ARS is to prepare Arkansans with disabilities to work and lead productive and independent lives.
“To achieve its mission, Arkansas Rehabilitation Services provides a variety of training and career preparation programs,” according to the release.
