Toes will be tapping for another 12 months.
Pine Bluff's Port City Blues Society has announced that the "Blues by Budweiser" concert series will be back for a third season.
Working again in collaboration with MK Distributors and RJ's Grill & Bar, Port City Blues Society will once more host live monthly blues concerts on Saturday evenings in downtown Pine Bluff. Each event will feature regional blues artists from throughout the Delta of Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana and beyond. Twelve concerts are scheduled beginning March 9 that will continue through February of 2025.
"Year three of Blues by Budweiser will be an impressive line-up of experienced regional acts that will once again reinforce the sound of the Delta in Pine Bluff," says Roscoe Willis, president of The Port City Blues Society. "We will continue raising awareness of the rich blues legacy and history of our community."
Nick Makris, president of MK Distributors, which sponsors the Blues by Budweiser Concert Series, said, "Each year Blues by Budweiser has gained momentum, and we are grateful to our partners for its third consecutive year. Affordable opportunities to hear musicians from near and far in our pocket of the state is a wonderful chance to help regenerate positive attention back to Pine Bluff. The lineup is strong; the atmosphere is fun; and I guarantee you the beer is cold."
Founding PCBS member and guitarist for the Port City Blues Society Players, Dave Sadler said, "Blues by Budweiser will again be held at RJ's Grill & Bar located at 128 S. Main Street. RJ's is a casual, non-smoking establishment featuring a full-service bar and food menu. Doors open at 7 p.m. with music starting at 8. Port City Blues Society members are admitted free. There is a $5 cover charge for non-members."
He further stated, "Our local blues society is an affiliated member of The Blues Foundation. Our goal is to preserve and promote blues music along with the culture of Delta blues and to educate the public about the history of blues in our region. Port City Blues Society also hosts a free weekly blues jam every Wednesday evening at RJ's where area musicians converge to play live blues."
Sadler added, "We want to also thank the Pine Bluff Commercial for their support of all we do."
It should be noted how the May 4, 2023 act, the Tina Cossey Band, made it all the way to the semi-finals of the 2024 International Blues Challenge competition held on Memphis' Beale Street Jan. 16-20, being narrowly edged out of a spot in the final round.
Also, Duwayne Burnside's "Acoustic Burnside" album was among only five Grammy nominees for Best Blues Acoustic album for 2023. Burnside will appear on April 6.
