Pine Bluff native Shelia Griffin Brown is principal of one of the nation’s top high schools honored recently by Newsweek’s Daily Beast.

Brown is principal at the Rosie Sorrells School of Education and Social Services at Dallas, Texas, which ranked fifth on the the online publication’s list of the "Top 25 Most Transformational Change-Making Schools in the Nation."

The schools were selected for their academic progress, sometimes in spite of the economic status of the students’ families.

"Brown believes the acknowledgement is a testament to the fact that the school is aligned with its mission of ensuring every student is engaged in quality learning experiences that will prepare them for future success in their college and career goals," a spokesman said.
