Anniversaries


The 93rd anniversary of Richardson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church at Tarry. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Antonio Gayden Sr., pastor of Union Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church at Pine Bluff, accompanied by his congregation.


Union Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, 1121 Persimmon St., will honor the Rev. and Mrs. Antonio Gayden Sr. on the second pastoral appreciation starting with ministers’ night at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19. A pastor’s wife’s brunch for Loretta Gayden will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 20, at the church fellowship hall.


Living Word Baptist Church, 5617 Sulphur Springs Road, will celebrate its fourth anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Julius McDade, pastor of New Direction Baptist Church, accompanied by his congregation.


The 21st anniversary of Freedom Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Fred Johnson of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer, along with his congregation.


Concerts/Musicals


St. John AME Church, 1117 W. Pullen St., will host the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Vesper Choir at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14. The program will include classical, sacred and gospel musical selections and is part of the church’s Black History observance. The community is also invited to a presentation of the movie, "War Room," at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, at St. John.


Main Street Church of God in Christ, 2901 S. Main St., will host its annual pre-Valentine’s musical and musician’s appreciation at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13. Guests will include Kourtney Smith, Xavier Clark, Renewed Generation, Byron & Co. and psalmist Michelle Johnson.


Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church at Star City will sponsor a celebration of gospel in memory of Maurice Dolls and host the fifth anniversary of Pure in Heart of Star City at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14.


Revival


Grapevine Church of God in Christ at Grapevine will hold a revival crusade at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 17-18. Services will be conducted by Superintendent Joe L. Stocker and Pine Bluff District #1 Churches of God in Christ evangelists’ team.


Special events


Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church, 2915 S. Main St., will celebrate the annual pastors’ and ministers’ night at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19. The guest speaker will be the Rev. C.L. Williams, pastor of Smith Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.


Eighth Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, 1200 W. Eighth Ave., will observe the 51st annual Valentine Heart service at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Derick Easter, pastor of New St. Hurricane Missionary Baptist Church. Choirs from Eighth Avenue and New St. Hurricane will sing.


Trinity Episcopal Church, 703 W. Third Ave., will resume its Rector’s Class at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. The subject will be C.S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters. The study materials and copies of the book are free and will be handed out at the first session.


First Missionary Baptist Church, 4500 Faucett Road, will host the first sermon of Theodis Riggins, a deacon, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14. The choir will sing.


Mt. Bayou Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer will sponsor a Black History celebration at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Walter Witherspoon Jr., pastor of Brown Temple #2 Missionary Baptist Church at Portland.


Union Missionary Baptist Church, 609 E. 24th Ave., will sponsor a Black History program at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 14. The play, "Glory Train Bound for the Old Ship of Zion," will be performed and the Rev. George Gatewood will sing.


Destiny Worship Center, 4900 W. 28th Ave., will feature Vivian Carroll Jones, author of "Echoes of Praise" and "Civil Rights Memoirs of a Pine Bluff Native," as the guest speaker at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 14.


Mt. Olive AME Church at Tarry will celebrate its annual Black History observance at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Accie Reynolds Jr., pastor of First Baptist Missionary Baptist Church at Ladd.


Almeta Missionary Baptist Church at Dumas will hold its annual Black History awareness service at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Tyrone Ford, pastor of Free Gift Missionary Baptist Church at Dumas.


Faith Presbyterian Church, 913 N. University Drive, will host the annual Black History program at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 14. Featured speaker Bettye Dunn-Wright will discuss the theme, "SELMA: Another Chapter." Alycen Jones will sing.


Nu Bread of Life Missionary Baptist Church, 1711 W. 13th Ave., will celebrate senior day at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, with the pastor, Rev. Sammie Smith Jr., speaking.


Women’s Day


Kings Highway Missionary Baptist Church, 2312 Fluker St., will celebrate its annual women’s day Sunday, Feb. 14. At 10:45 a.m., the speaker will be Mia Meadows of Kings Highway. At 3 p.m., the guest speaker will be state Sen. Linda Pondexter Chesterfield, a member of Firsts Baptist Church at Little Rock.


Youth


Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 909 S. Wisconsin St., will host its annual youth day at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14. The guest minister will be the Rev. Lucan Hargraves, accompanied by Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church of Hurd. Guests will also include Sharhonica Smiley of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Watkin Chapel Youth Choir, Martin Montgomery and Jordan Wilson of Grace & Mercy Church.
