A man who was announced as a suspect in a burglary earlier this week has been cleared by police.

A man who was announced as a suspect in a burglary earlier this week has been cleared by police.


Chad Michael Smothers, 38, was announced as a suspect in a commercial burglary Tuesday at R & E Supply at 2514 W. 17th Ave.


Pine Bluff Police Department spokesman Office Richard Wegner said that Smothers came in to the detectives office Friday.


"After being interviewed, it has been determined that Mr. Smothers is not responsible for the burglary at R & E Supply," Wegner said. "He has been cleared of this incident and released."


According to the police report, security video of the incident showed a man use a wooden plank to pry open the bay door, then crawl inside.


Wegner said in the report that nothing was taken, but there was damage done to the business.
