LITTLE ROCK — Frank Allen Burkhalter, father of Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor John Burkhalter, died Thursday, Burkhalter’s campaign said in a statement.

LITTLE ROCK — Frank Allen Burkhalter, father of Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor John Burkhalter, died Thursday, Burkhalter’s campaign said in a statement.


Frank Burkhalter, 86, died of natural causes in Alabama, where he lived.


"Our thoughts and prayers go out to John’s mother, sisters, John, (wife) Penny, and their daughters during this time of grieving," the campaign said.


Service will be held at Sylvan Hills United Methodist Church in Sherwood, where Frank Burkhalter raised his family. The date and time were not immediately available Thursday.


Burkhalter is vying with Republican U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin and Libertarian candidate Christopher Olson for the lieutenant governor’s post.
