Don Knight, 87, passed to his Lord and Savior, on March 6, 2019. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Jo Ann Knight, who remained his great love until the very end.

Born on February 4, 1932, Don was the youngest child of Myrtle and Conger Knight, both deceased. His only surviving sibling is his brother Clarence Knight of California.

He and Jo Ann married at 19 years old and spent the next 68 years on the adventure of a lifetime.

Don was in all respects a family man who cherished and found joy in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his two daughters, Jan Eager (Jim), and Jill Gray (Stephen); his three grandchildren Adam Gray (Kristen), Jana Law (Matthew), and Katie Jo Ballard (Dylan); and six great-grandchildren Stephen Everett Gray, Owen Jasper Gray, Gray Declan Ballard, Eleanor Elizabeth Law, Henley Jayne Ballard, and Jackson Knight Law.

Don graduated high school in Hamburg in 1950, achieved his undergraduate degree at the University of Arkansas - Monticello, and completed two masters degrees - one from Louisiana State University in physical education and a second in education from the University of Arkansas.

Don never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, and took great pride in his career as a coach, educator and principal - a role he fulfilled for 37 years in the Watson Chapel and Pine Bluff school systems. He had a true love for his students and their well being.

He not only dedicated his time and talents to educating others, running two successful restaurants, Catfish Cove (28 years) and Ponchos (12 years), but also to his church. Don was an active member in the First Baptist Church in Pine Bluff for over 30 years before he and Jo Ann moved to Little Rock in 1992 where he became an active member in the First Baptist Church in Little Rock.

Don spent his retirement traveling with Jo Ann, spending time with his family, and ultimately making a great many new friends at Fox Ridge where he last resided. An athlete until the end, Don could frequently be found out walking and enjoying time outside.

There is no doubt from anyone that knew Don that he was a great man, who loved his family, and friends, and by all accounts had a wonderful, blessed life. Don told his teachers every morning as school started “Its going to be a great day.” He truly believed that and lived his life so that every day was a great day.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the kind individuals at Kindred Hospice.

Don will be buried at Memorial Park Cemetery in Pine Bluff on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 9:00 a.m by Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services. A memorial service will follow at the First Baptist Church in Little Rock at 11:00 am.
