The life of Donald Nelson, (affectionately known as “Don” or “Lil Don”) was one of profound love for his family and friends. Don was born on August 17, 1969 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Mack Nelson and Lillie Mallett, both of whom preceded him in death.
He accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. Elijah Mason at Gospel Temple Baptist Church in Pine Bluff. He attended Sunday School regularly and served an Usher until he moved to Dallas, Texas.
Don attended Coleman elementary and middle school and graduated from Watson Chapel High School. He also attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
As a small child, Don was very inquisitive. He would dismantle a radio, new or used, to enhance his bicycle. His love for cars and driving was displayed at a young age, too. He was known for taking unauthorized joy rides in his mother’s and siblings’ cars. And when confronted, he would just flash that beautiful smile that he frequently displayed. His love for cars developed into a deep love for car repair. Don was always available for any family or friend that had car problems, no matter the hour.
In later years, Don developed an interest and love for motorcycles, especially the Harley-Davidson. On June 8, 2019, Don took his last ride as he looked upon his Savior’s face and he was welcomed home.
Don spent many years working in security and was employed as a Security Guard at the Federal Courthouse in Dallas, Texas.
Don was also preceded in death by his wife, Maria Wright-Nelson; brothers, Johnny Lee and Lonnie; and sisters, Vergenia and Lillian.
He leaves cherished memories with his children; Donovan, D’Anthony, Da’Nesha and Daniece; brothers, Mack Jr. (Willestine), Ronnie, Jackie (Ginnell); sisters, Carolyn, Geneva (Donnie), Earsie, Annette (Donnie), Jacqueline (Keith), Sharon; mother-in-law, Charlotte Wright; numerous nieces and nephews who loved Uncle Don, and a host of cousins, friends and co-workers. He is also cherished by his childhood friends from West 17th Street in Pine Bluff.
