Jacob Samuel Woolley, age 25, of North Little Rock, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2019. He was born on November 25, 1993 in Ascot, England, to William Corey and Kay Amanda Young Woolley.


Jacob was an Eagle Scout, which is the highest ranking in the Boy Scouts of America. Jacob was a 2012 graduate of Woodlawn High School. After his high school graduation, he went on to attend the University of Arkansas at Monticello where he received his associate degree.


In 2017 he completed his studies at Jefferson Regional Medical Center School of Nursing earning his registered nursing degree. Jacob was a member of Prosperity United Methodist Church. If someone was to describe Jacob, they would say he was fun-loving, had the most tender heart, funny and so generous.


He loved being in the outdoors, hunting, fishing and hiking. Jacob enjoyed playing his guitar and was a Be The Match donor. He also held a blue belt from White Hall Martial Arts Academy. Jacob will always be remembered as a loving son and brother.


Left to cherish his memory are his parents, William Corey and Kay Amanda Woolley; sister, Sarah Woolley; Paternal grandparents, William Paul and Paulette Woolley of Woodlawn; maternal grandparents, Reg and June Young of Frimley, UK; aunts and uncles, Eric and Alison Woolley of Reston, VA, Mark and Denise Young of Frimley, UK; his cat, Stormy; three 1st cousins and numerous other loving family and friends.


Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 15, 2019, at Buie Funeral Home in Rison.

William McEntire, Jr.


Canton — William “Bill” Alexander McEntire, Jr., age 69, a great historian and friend to many, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2019.


Mr. McEntire was born January 11, 1950 in Jefferson County, Arkansas and had made his home in Canton for the past fifteen years. During his younger years, Bill demonstrated strong leadership skills and involvement in various community service projects which led to him being awarded the Eagle Scout rank in the Boys Scouts of America Program and he later proudly served his country as a United States Army veteran. Bill always had an interest in cooking and was employed as a culinary chef working all across the United States.


He was an avid reader and an excellent studied historian on the American Civil War and the American Revolutionary War. With his vast knowledge of these important events of our past, Bill was often a frequent speaker at many historical gatherings that were held all throughout Western North Carolina. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and had served as the Vice President of the Western District of North Carolina.


Bill held a great interest in his family’s genealogy and he devoted many hours of extensive research on the lineage and heritage of his family. He was a member of the Sonoma Masonic Lodge # 472 AF & AM in Bethel, a Master Mason, a member of the Asheville Scottish Rite and the Waynesville York Rite and was also a member of the Sonoma Chapter #254 Order of the Eastern Star.


Mr. McEntire was as a member of Clyde First Baptist Church and also attended Canton Central United Methodist Church. His family will forever cherish Bill’s memory and those that were blessed to know him will forever treasure his friendship. He was a man who believed in being educated about our history and in the words of Robert A. Heinlein, “A generation which ignores history has no past- and no future.” Bill will be deeply missed.


Preceding Mr. McEntire in death was his father, William Alexander McEntire, Sr.; his wife, Gail McEntire and his step-fathers, John Ezell and Harry Tisdale.


Surviving are his mother, Aileen Rodgers Ezell of Canton; his brothers, Rodger McEntire and his wife, Suzanne of Waynesville and John B. McEntire of Canton; one step-sister; several nieces and nephews, and many cousins.


A graveside memorial service with Masonic Rites will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesville. Reverend Paul Brown and Rev. Dr. David Phillips will be officiating.

Ruth Taylor


Ruth Lee (Hill) Taylor was born January 14, 1927 in Jefferson County and is the tenth child of the late Reverend John Paul Hill and Clara Bullock Hill. She accepted Christ at an early age and developed a deep faith in God that strengthened and directed her life.


Her father’s occupation as minister, carpenter, and farmer and her mother’s practice as a midwife with strong work ethic, exposed Ruth to experiences and skills that would positively impact her Christian beliefs, dedication to family and community.


She was married for 72 years to Mr. Lenard Carl Taylor and eleven children were born to that union. During her journey, she was a faithful member of Allen Temple A.M.E Church serving in various capacities of Christian service. She remained faithful until her homegoing on August 11, 2019.”
