Jimmy Coleman III

Mr. Jimmy L. Coleman, III 29, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas passed Monday, September 23, 2019. He was born October 28, 1989, in Fort Polk, Louisiana to Jimmy L. Coleman, Jr. and Debra A. (Markham) Coleman both of Pine Bluff, AR.

His memories will be cherished by: his aforementioned parents; sisters, Krystal D. Cosen; and Monique S. Coleman both of Pine Bluff, AR; grandmother, Dora G. Markham of Pine Bluff, AR.

Carnel Williams

Carnel Williams, 61, was born October 27, 1957 to the late Charlie Lee Williams and Velma Williams. He departed this life September 21, 2019, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He was a member of Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

Carnel was hired on January 26, 1985, with the Pine Bluff Police Department. He was promoted to Sergeant on June 1, 1999. He served in many capacities over his 32 years with the department. He worked in the Patrol Division, Detective Division, and Vice. Other areas of service were as a Crime Scene Unit Supervisor, Bicycle Patrol Unit, and an Evidence Officer. He took his job seriously and was proud to serve the community he “loved”. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and retired from the Pine Bluff Police Department on March 17, 2017.

Carnel Williams also served for over 33 years as a member on the Arkansas Army National Guard and the United States Army where he became Lieutenant Colonel.

Carnel leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 33 years – Lowandia Faye Williams, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, his son Marcus Williams, Jackson, Mississippi; Three brothers, Noah Washington, Detroit, Michigan, Robert Lee Williams (Ruth), and Carl Lee Williams both of Pine Bluff, AR. Two sisters, Joyce Ann Williams, Pine Bluff, AR and Charlie Mae Davis (Hubbie) Little Rock, Arkansas.

Theopolis Benford Jr.

Mr. Theopolis Benford, Jr. departed this life and transitioned from his earthly home on Tuesday, September 24, 2019.

He was born as the first child to the late Theopolis and Verdell Benford, Sr. on October 27, 1950 in Little Rock, AR. He graduated from Belair High School in El Paso, TX in 1968. He furthered his educational journey at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff), obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1974. He was initiated into the Beta Theta Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated in 1972.

On May 7, 1973, he united in marriage to the love of his life, Gladys M. Benford. Through this union, two children were born. They remained joined in marriage for 46 years until he transitioned.

He confessed his life to Christ at an early age at Community Baptist Church in El Paso, TX.

Theopolis displayed a high level of patriotism and commitment in serving our country during his service in the United States Army for 21 years. During his service, he served in various countries including Kuwait, Japan, Egypt, and Somalia. He was also stationed at several military bases across the country including Fort Hood (Killeen, TX), Fort Knox (Kentucky), Fort McPherson (Atlanta, GA), Fort Lee (Virginia), and Fort McClellan (Alabama). His hard work and dedication as an officer of the United States Army earned him a multitude of awards and medals: Meritorious Service Award, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, 2 Overseas Service Ribbons, Kuwait Liberation Medals, United Nations Medal, and Multi-Forces Observation Medal. He retired from the military with a rank of Major in 1996. After retirement, he served as Assistant Professor of Military Science in the ROTC program at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff for several years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Theopolis and Verdell Benford, Sr. and two brothers, Donald Benford and Gary Jerome Benford.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife, Gladys M. Benford; son, Marcus J. Benford (Rashonda); daughter, Monique J. Benford; two grandsons, Julian Benford and Maximus Benford; brother, William Benford; two sisters, Elizabeth Benford and Donnice Benford; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service: Saturday, September 28, 2019, 11:00 AM at Kings Highway Missionary Baptist Church 2312 West Fluker Street, Pine Bluff, AR 71601. Burial will take place at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, TX. by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

Laura Rayford

Laura Gene Rayford, 65, of Pine Bluff, passed September 21, 2019. Born February 7, 1954 in Altheimer, Arkansas to the late George and Willie Mae Holmes Reed.

Survivors include a son, Willie Purifoy of Pine Bluff, daughter, Trina Reed of Pine Bluff; three brothers, Johnny Reed, David Reed and George Rodney Reydel Reed all of Pine Bluff; two sisters, Shirley Jean Reed and Henryetta Marie Reed Taylor of Pine Bluff; two grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church by Rev. Larry C. Battles. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery by Henson-Holcomb Mortuary. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Mortuary.
