Mr. John Sanders, 88, of Pine Bluff, passed away December 21, 2019. He was born to the late Doc Sanders and Christine Murry-Sanders in Gould, Arkansas, on October 23, 1931.
His visitation will be at Perry Funeral Home Chapel Friday, December 27, 2019, from 5-6 p.m. His funeral is scheduled for Saturday, December 28, 2019, at Prairie Lake M.B.C. at 11 a.m. with Rev. Alvin Lowe officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Lake Cemetery.
He leaves to cherish his memories: His loving wife, Mary Washington-Sanders; one son, James (Elizabeth) Franklin; two daughters, Ruby McFee and Fay Elliott; one sister-in-law, Margret Lowe; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Service is by Perry Funeral Home.
Naomi Lawson, Christian woman, retired educator and lifelong resident of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, passed December 19, 2019. She was blessed to be on this earth for ninety-eight years. Her mind remained sharp at this age. She often amazed persons in conversation as she accurately recalled events, moments in history and named people as far back as 1939.
She was born August 28, 1921, to the late Robert and Edna Jones Nelson. The eighth of nine children born to this union. All her siblings preceded her in death. In 1942 she married the love of her life, the late Burgess B. Lawson in Savannah, Georgia. To this union were born two daughters, Naomi D. Lawson Jolaoso and Gretna Lawson Currie. Gretna preceded her mother in death.
A lifetime member of St. John African Methodist Episcopal church for ninety-eight years. Mrs. Lawson was the oldest member of St. John. She rendered dedicated service to her church as a Church School teacher, Stewardess, Trustee and member of the Excelsior Club, Women’s Missionary Society and History Committee.
Mrs. Lawson was a graduate of Merrill High School and Arkansas Mechanical and Normal College, (A.M. & N.), now known as the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
Education available to everyone was a tenet of Mrs. Lawson’s teaching career. During World War II, she taught disabled veterans at A.M. & N. College. She taught in the Barnes School System, Sherrill School District, Pine Bluff School District.
She was a member of “Traveling Friends”, Jefferson County Retired Teacher’s Association and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
The legacy she leaves will be cherished by her only daughter, Naomi D. Lawson Jolaoso; granddaughter, Maria Jolaoso, nieces, nephews, church family and many students.
Homegoing Celebration of Life Services will be held at St. John AME Church, 1117 W. Pullen Street, Pine Bluff, Arkansas on December 28, 2019 at 2:00 P.M., with Rev. Cecil L. Williams, Jr., officiating. Interment will be in Bellwood Cemetery by the P.K. Miller Mortuary.
There will be an Omega Omega service held at the mortuary 5:30 p.m., Friday, December 27,2019. There will be a wake at St. John AME Church on Saturday from noon until the time of service.
Mrs. Eva Mae Burks 92, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas passed away Sunday, December 22, 2019.

Gary E. Turner, 67, passed away on December 24, 2019 at his home in White Hall, AR. He was born on December 7, 1952 to Kermit Elijah Turner and Maxine Long Turner.
He was a 1971 Watson Chapel graduate and was a retired maintenance supervisor at Pine Bluff Arsenal where he worked for over 30 years. He was a Methodist.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Keith Turner; a great- granddaughter, Austyn Elise Hogan; and a nephew, Hunter Laney.
He is survived by a daughter, Bridget Turner Gill (Chris) of McGehee; a sister, Shiela Turner Laney (Rodney) of Pine Bluff; a granddaughter, Tyler Clavet Hogan (Eric), a grandson, Garrett Clavet (Cheyenne), three great-grandsons, Gray McCoy, Emmett Hogan, and Barrett Clavet, all of McGehee; a niece, Courtney Turner Fisher; and a nephew, K.T. Turner.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service on Friday, December 27, 2019, 2:00 p.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Home, 1621 South Cherry St. in Pine Bluff, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at a later date.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers monetary donations be made to the Facebook Fundraiser for Gary Turner or to the funeral home to assist them with expenses.

John E. Jennings, 83, of Sheridan passed December 19, 2019. Born February 14, 1936 in Tupelo, AR, to late Chester and Laura Canada Ginger.
Survivors include a son, John E. Jennings, Jr. of bald Knob, AR; three brothers; Leroy Ginger of Sheridan, James Ginger and Henry Ginger of Pine Bluff, and three grandchildren.
