Emma Jean Smith, 69, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2020. She was born on July 18, 1950, to the Late Reverend Willie and Emma Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Daughter, Stephanie Sims; Granddaughter, Alexandria Cooper; Grandson, Kristian Cooper, all of Fort Worth, TX; Sisters, Barbara Shack of Little Rock, AR, Dora Samuels, Deborah Johnson both of Pine Bluff, AR; Brother, Willie Smith, Jr. of Pine Bluff, AR and a hosts of nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2020, at Forest Lawn Cemetary in Pine Bluff, AR. Services are entrusted to P K Miller Mortuary.
Joyce Vance, 63, passed March 27, 2020, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She was born on May 4, 1956 to the late Henry Cole and the late Leola Charlie Thomas in Pastoria, Arkansas. She married Samuel Vance Sr. on March 29, 2015.
Joyce was employed at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and also was an Alumni.
She was preceded in death by brothers: Willie Davenport Jr. & Moses L. Thomas; Mother-in-law Greathern Vance.
She leaves to cherish her memories husband, Samuel L. Vance Sr.; Children: Shemeka Elam, Makesha Donald, Samarra Vance, Samuel (Kisha) Vance, II, MarQuis (Tyler) White, Sr.; Derrick Vance, Neely (Amanda) Vance and MarTika White. Grandchildren: Deante Donald, Taryn Bailey, MaLik LeVaul, MarQuis White, Jr., McKinley LeVaul, De’Kendrous Bradley Jr., Jay Rancifer, Layla Jackson, Samuel Vance III, Samson Vance, Ry’layne Spears, Amaria Kelley, Andrez Roaf, Amiah Johnson, Amir Vance, Marley Vance and Jordyn Vance. Siblings: Willie Mae Butler, Dorothy (Walter) Sanders, Willie Giles, Catherine (James) McCoy, Louis Sharpley, Curlee (Diann) Thomas and Shirley Kentle. Raised as sisters, Diane Taylor and Faye Davenport. Brothers-in-law: Todd Vance, Joseph Vance, Emanuel Vance and Alfred Vance. Sisters-in-law: Cleodis Word, Betty Sneed; Mildred Branch, Trudy Vance, Mary Jimmerson and Henrietta (Magid) Dagher.

Jessie Lee Trimble, 92, of Pine Bluff, passed March 26, 2020. Born June 21, 1927, in Lonoke, Arkansas, to the late David and Rena Gates Trimew.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Joshua, sister, Martha Graham and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Garden by Rev. Otis Trimble. Arrangements by Henson-Holcomb Mortuary.
Gene Givens Sr.
Mr. Gene Givens Sr., 76, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, succumbed to his illness in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family on March 28, 2020.
He was born to Willie and Queenester Givens, April 29, 1943, at Ladd, Arkansas. Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to everyone.
Gene loved working at General Waterworks, from where he retired. He also loved working for the Area Agency on Aging. Interesting enough, he loved plowing with his tractor.
Gene was married to his wife Georgia on February 7, 1965. His brother J.W. Preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Georgia Givens; daughters, Debbie (Anthony) McGaughey, Norma Givens, Linda (Percy) Arnold, and Loretta Givens; sons, Charles (Rose) Battles, Terry Givens, Gene (Rhonda) Givens, Jr., and Wayne (Michelle) Givens; a brother Nelce Givens; sisters, Margaret Givens , and Willie Mae Hall Givens, and many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude toward the P.K. Miller Funeral Home for being very accommodating and understanding during this difficult time.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Graceland Cemetery. Service will follow at Graceland at 11:00 a.m. April 4, 2020 where Gene will be laid to rest.

Mason Xavier Lusbure, 1, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away March 14, 2020. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery by Paradise Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

Hans Siegfried Johnson, age 102, of Pine Bluff, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2020.
Born at Pine Bluff on September 17, 1917, he was a son of the late John Bates Avery Johnson and Hattie Culver Johnson. He graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1934 and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Louisiana State University. He played clarinet in the LSU Band and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
Mr. Johnson joined the United States Army Air Corps and earned his wings in April of 1941, and was trained on the DC-3, and B-18 aircraft.. During World War II, he was stationed in Panama, flying reconnaissance missions over the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans looking for enemy submarines that might sabotage the Panama Canal.
After the war, he returned to Jefferson County and engaged in farming with his father. He later joined with his father-in-law in the G. R. McSwine Lumber Company, which operated a saw mill. The mill was later closed, and for a number of years he was a lumber buyer for the Owosso Furniture Company. In the 1950’s, he reestablished the G. R. McSwine Lumber Company as a lumber wholesale business. He operated the business until 2006. Mr. Johnson was president for over 50 years of the Westside Hardwood Club.
Mr. Johnson was very involved in Masonic activities for many years. He was a member of Pine Bluff Masonic Lodge # 69, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a York Rite Mason, and a past-potentate of the Sahara Shrine.
He was the oldest living member of First United Methodist Church, and was a past chairman of the official board.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 69 years, Nathalie McSwine Johnson on September 20, 2019; two grandchildren, John Bates Avery Johnson IV and McKensie Culver Johnson; his brothers, Kenneth Culver Johnson and John Bates Avery Johnson, Jr.; and his step-mother, Lula Hargis Johnson.
A private family service will be held on Friday, April 3, 2020, 1:00 p.m. in Graceland Cemetery with Rev. Mike Morey officiating. Arrangements are by Ralph Robinson & Son. The service will be webcast live from our website, RalphRobinsonandSon.com so that others may attend the service in spirit.
