Herman Ginger


Dr. Herman Horton Ginger, 78, of Pine Bluff, died Friday, July 24, 2020. He was born March 9, 1942, in Pine Bluff, son of Cecil Ginger and Mary Frances Caldwell Ginger.


Dr. Ginger was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1960. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Arkansas at Monticello in 1964. After graduation he went to work for Boeing as an engineer in New Orleans, Louisiana. He left New Orleans in 1968 to go to Optometry school in Memphis, TN at Southern College of Optometry. He opened his practice in Pine Bluff July 13, 1972.


Dr. Ginger was a member of the American Optometric Association for 52 years. He served in various other capacities in the AOA, including Volunteer Appointments from 2001-2018, Communications Group Advisory Committee from 2001-2003, Congress Exhibits Committee from 2003-2007, Optometry’s Meeting Exhibits Committee from 2007-2010 and Meetings Center Executive Committee from 2010-2018. In April of 2019 Dr. Ginger was awarded the President’s Award for Distinguished Service to Optometry from the American Optometric Association.


He also served as an InfantSEE and Vision USA volunteer and as President and Secretary/Treasurer of the Southwest Council of Optometry. Dr. Ginger served as President of the Arkansas Optometric Association in 1999 and earned the Lifetime of Excellence Award from the Arkansas Optometric Association in 2014.


He served as a Justice of the Peace for the Jefferson County Quorum Court from 2002 until 2020. During his term of the Quorum Court, he served as chairman of the Finance Committee and the Public Safety/Emergency Services Committee. He also served on the Community Development and Grants Committee and Solid Waste/Recycling Committee.


Dr. Ginger was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church of Pine Bluff and recently became a member of the Pine Bluff Community Band.


In his spare time, Dr. Ginger loved to work on various projects in his shop, play musical instruments, sing and spend time with family.


He was preceded in death by his parents.


Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Yeager Ginger, whom he married November 27, 1964, in Fordyce, Arkansas; daughter, Amanda Ginger of Pine Bluff; sister, Cecile Andry of Metairie, Louisiana; brother, Dr. Darrell Ginger and his wife, Rebecca, of Fayetteville; granddaughter, Maribeth Howerton of Ruston, Louisiana; and an abundance of nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 4, 2020, in the parking lot of First Assembly of God in Pine Bluff with Reverend Carlton Cross and Pastor Gary Bell officiating. All attendees other than those participating in the service and sitting with the family are asked to remain in their vehicles for the service and listen through the radio on 95.1 FM or follow our webcast on www.RalphRobinsonandSon.com.


There will be a drive through visitation Monday evening from 5-7 p.m. in the parking lot of First Assembly of God. Attendees are asked to greet the family from inside their vehicles during the visitation.

Hazel McKay


Hazel Levette McKay, 52, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas passed away Friday, July 24, 2020 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. She was born on March 7, 1968 to the late Jefro and Alice Goins McKay in Little Rock.


She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.


She leaves to cherish her memories her only sister, Erma McKay-Shaw (Vandy) of Pine Bluff and three brothers Edward (Arlisa) McKay and Jefro (Cassandra) McKay, Jr. of Pine Bluff and Brandon Nickson, Sr. of Jonesboro, AR, two nephews Willie Dansby, Jr. of Pine Bluff and Brandon Nickson, Jr. of Jonesboro, AR, three aunts Minnie Pearl Goins, May Reed and Verleen Goins along with a host of cousins, friends, and her church family who will always cherish her memories.


The public visitation is Saturday, August 1, 2020 from 12:00-1:00 PM. The funeral service is Monday, August 3 at 11:00 AM at Judah Restoration Worship Center, 2401 S. Main Street, Pine Bluff. In adherence to the CDC guidelines and the state of Arkansas mandate, all attendees are required to wear masks and maintain social distance during each service. Georgia Taylor


Mrs. Georgia Mae Taylor, 91, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas passed away July 25, 2020. She was born in Eureka, Mississippi on May 9, 1929 to the late Charlie and Rosie Bell Alford.


Her visitation will be Friday July 31, 2020 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Perry Funeral Home Chapel.


Her funeral service is scheduled for Saturday August 1, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Pine Hill M.B.C./ Rev. Glenn Barnes, Pastor and Rev. Douglas Allen, Eulogist. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery.


She leaves to cherish her memories, daughter; Janice Marie Rayford, son; Eddie Lee Taylor, Jr., sister; Versie Dee (Ivory) Shaw, granddaughters; Lakesha (Terry) Childress, Anya Taylor, and Teiana Taylor, grandson; DeMarcus (Andrea) Rayford, and a host of great-grandchildrens, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Deloris Jackson


Deloris (Fahn) Jackson, 72 transitioned from this life on Monday, July 27, 2020. She was preceded in death by both her parents, Mary Lee Reed of Dumas, AR and Chester Fahn of Pine Bluff.


She leaves to cherish in legacy her beloved husband of 52 years, James E. Jackson, Sr and her three (3) children; James E., Jr (Arlington, TN), Brian O. Jackson (Pleasanton, CA) and Charlet E. Cornelious (Little Elm, TX) and nine (9) grandchildren; Austin, Jaden, Christian, Brianna, James III, Collyn, Cydney, Brady and Brody.


Also to mourn her loss are three sisters; Mary Williams and Kerma Jones (Walter) of Dumas, AR; Corliss Jasper of Pine Bluff, AR as well as her womb mate, twin brother Devon Fahn of Dumas, AR. She was also preceded in death by her sister Ruby Lee of Dumas, AR.


The public walk through visitation will be Friday, July 31, 2020, from 6:00-7:00 PM at First Trinity COGIC - 800 S. Catalpa Street, Pine Bluff, Arkansas. A “Celebration of Life” service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at First Trinity COGIC.


In adherence to the CDC guidelines, everyone will be required to wear a mask to mitigate the community spread of COVID-19. Only 100 persons will be allowed inside the sanctuary during the service. Service entrusted to Christian Way Funeral Home.


Selma James


Selma Victoria “Baby” James, 84, of Pine Bluff, died Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at her home. She was born April 6, 1936, in Pine Bluff. She was formerly employed with Kroger’s and Radiology Associates. Always wanting to be involved and have something to do, she was a member of First Baptist Church, White Hall; a member of the Progressive Women’s Association; a Volunteer In Public Schools (VIPS); and former “Woman of the Year” of the Home Economics Association. She was a 4H instructor, and loved her roses and dancing. She loved to travel, and make a cross-country trip three times, as well as trips to casinos. She loved a good game of Bunco, Mexican Train, or any other card game.


She was preceded in death by her husband, William Douglas James.


Survivors include two sons, Mike James (Tammy), and Wayne James (Sherry); her daughter, Diane James (Steve); two grandsons, Jeremy Midkiff (Jennifer), and Ben Bates (Emily); five great-grandchildren, Daniel, Taylor, Ryan, Ben Jr.., and Bailey; one great-great-grandson, Maxwell.


The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 P.M. Thursday, July 30, 2020, at Robinson Fuller White Hall Chapel.


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 31, 2020, at First Baptist Church, White Hall, with the Rev. Paul Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Hardin Cemetery under the direction of Robinson Fuller White Hall Chapel.

Buddy Johnson Jr.


Buddy Johnson, Jr., 66, of Pine Bluff passed July 27, 2020. Born February 20, 1954, in Pine Bluff to the late Buddy Johnson, Sr. and Estella Johnson.


Survivors include his wife, Sandra Kemp-Johnson, mother, Estella Johnson; three sons; Tyrone Johnson of Milwaukee, Lamont Johnson of Little Rock and Demarkis Kemp of Pine Bluff; two daughters, Shalonda Jones and Yolanda Williams of Milwaukee; four brothers, Robert Johnson, Paul Johnson, Phillip Johnson and James Johnson; sister, Alice Sanders, thirteen grand children and three great-grandchildren.


Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at Henson-Holcomb Mortuary Chapel by Rev. Jimmy Fisher.


A walk through visitation will be held Friday from 5:30 to 6:30 P.M. at the Mortuary. Masks are required at both services. Henson-Holcomb Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
