Robert Joseph "Bobby" Mathews, Sr., age 79, of Pine Bluff, died Sunday, October 19, 2014.


Born July 17, 1935 at Jefferson, he was a son of the late James Floyd Mathews and Lucille Victoria Duncan Mathews. He attended First Assembly of God.


Bobby loved to hunt and fish, and enjoyed teaching the skill to his sons. He loved his Lord and church family. He enjoyed spending time talking and joking with his friends and family.


Mr. Mathews worked at International Paper Company for 30 years, retiring in 1999 from the finishing and shipping department.


Also predeceasing him are a sister, Lois Jean Owens; and three brothers, James Foister Mathews, Albert Fay Mathews, and Edward Larry Mathews.


Survivors include his wife, Gladys Marie Logan Mathews, whom he married on March 10, 1961 at Pine Bluff; children, Robert J. "Joey" Mathews, Jr. (Vicki), Teri Mathews-Pairsh, and Jeffery Mathews (Malette); a sister, Flossie Eubanks; seven grandchildren, Tyler Mathews, Seth Hughes, Justin Mathews, David Grimes, Heather Grimes-Barringer, Zach Kimsey, and Amber Stone; eight great-grandchildren; along with a number of nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be Wednesday, 1:00 p.m. at Fuller Hale-South Chapel with Rev. Gary Bell officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Hospice Angels, the staff and physicians at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, and friends and neighbors for their loving attention to Mr. Mathews and his family during his illness.
