A Pine Bluff man who was found shot to death Wednesday night had been released from the adult detention center Wednesday afternoon.

Michael R. Mallett Jr., 31, had been picked up on a misdemeanor warrant charging him with failure to appear in court at 1:20 p.m. He was released at 2:25 p.m. after a $650 bond had been posted.

At 10:24 p.m., police were sent to the 2600 block of Cockrill Street in the Belmont area in response to a report that a person had been shot, and found Mallett’s body inside a vehicle.

Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley pronounced Mallett dead at the scene at 11:23 p.m., and listed the cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Capt. Greg Shapiro said Friday that no suspect has been named in the shooting, and police are continuing their investigation.

The slaying was the 15th of the year in Jefferson County and the 14th inside the Pine Bluff city limits.

Anyone with information about the death is asked to call the Detective Division at 730-2090 and a reward is available for information leading to an arrest.
