The chancellor announced recently that he will retire effective May 25. Davis has served as chancellor of UAPB since Nov. 5, 1991. He is the second in his family to serve in the position after his father was president of the university, formerly named the Agricultural, Mechanical and Normal College (AM&N), from 1943-72.
Davis previously served as dean of the School of Science and Technology and dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at UAPB.
Over the last two decades, Davis has improved core academic programs, increased the number of master’s degree programs and completed the addition of UAPB’s first doctoral program in Aquaculture/Fisheries. Previously, Davis devoted 33 years to teaching mathematics and physics at various institutions, including Mississippi Valley State University, Arkansas Baptist College, Iowa State University and UAPB.
Davis holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from AM&N College, a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, and a doctorate in engineering mechanics from Iowa State University.
A special part of the sunrise service will include the unveiling of three historical markers that will be placed around the university’s campus and Pine Bluff.
