Dollarway needed very little time to put the points on the board. The Cougars were stopped after three plays and the Cardinals took the ensuing possession 56 yards on four plays.
With 8:57 to go in the opening quarter, Xavier Long scored on a 23-yard touchdown run. Long hit Davonne Chapman for the two-point conversion to give Dollarway an early 8-0 lead.
After a Cougar fumble and a turnover on downs by the Cardinals, Dollarway’s Kabian Ento intercepted a Cougar pass and returned it to the Cardinal 41-yard line. Eleven plays later, Long scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with 10:11 to go in the first half. The try for two failed and Dollarway led 14-0.
Central fought back. On the next possession, the Cougars went 65 yards on 8 plays. Curly Brewer scored on a 5-yard run with 6:16 to go before the intermission. The Cougars failed to convert the two-point conversion and trailed 14-6.
Dollarway would then score twice in a span of 58 seconds to break the game open. With 5:50 until the intermission, Young scored on a 67-yard run for the Cardinals to push the lead to 20-6 after the try for two failed.
Central fumbled on the ensuing play of the next possession, and the Cardinals needed only three plays to take advantage of the miscue. Joshua Liddell capped off the 54-yard drive with a 10-yard scoring run. Again, Dollarway failed to convert the two-point conversion and the Cardinals took a 26-6 lead at the intermission.
The Cardinals took the opening drive of the second half 80 yards on, 8 plays. Dequan Christmas capped off the possession with a 20-yard touchdown run. The Cardinals continued having trouble with the two-point conversion and led 32-6 with 9:22 to go in the third.
After forcing the Cougars to punt after three plays on the next possession, Dollarway went 72 yards on five plays. Long hit Henry Murphy on a 37-yard scoring pass to push the lead to 38-6 with 5:39 to go in the quarter.
Young intercepted a Helena-West Helena pass on the next possession and returned it 67 yards for a touchdown to put the mercy rule in effect late in the third quarter. After the two-point try was no good, the Cardinals led 44-6.
Central got a late score when Keith Hayes scored from 5 yards away with 3:25 to go in the game. Brewer completed a pass to Keyshawn Simpson on the two-point conversion to make the final 44-14.
