UAM eliminated from tourney

BENTONVILLE — The Arkansas-Monticello softball team concluded the season with a 5-1 loss to Ouachita Baptist on Saturday in the loser’s bracket of the Great American Conference championship tournament.

Sophomore Katie Slaughter (14-11) suffered the loss after allowing five runs (three earned) off seven hits with three strikeouts and no walks in the first 4 1/3 innings.

UAM scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run from freshman Kali Piha.

Abbi Frakes (14-18) earned the complete-game win for OBU after allowing just one run on eight hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

UAM ends its season with an overall record of 29-25.


Arkansas postpones game against Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Arkansas softball team has cancelled its game with Tennessee scheduled for Saturday. The game will be made up today in a doubleheader.

The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. today.

Arkansas will finish its regular season next weekend when they host Auburn.


Harvick wins at Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. — Kevin Harvick saved his best for last in winning Saturday night’s Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway.

Harvick charged from seventh to first after a restart for a green-white- checkered finish. He then beat Clint Bowyer at the finish by 0.343 seconds for his 20th career Sprint Cup Series victory, including his third at Richmond.

Juan Pablo Montoya appeared to be on the way to ending his 94-race winless streak and claiming his first victory on an oval, as he led the way before the caution flag waved in the closing laps for an accident involving Brian Vickers

Harvick and Montoya were among those who pitted during the caution, while Jeff Burton remained on the track and led the way for the final restart. Montoya restarted in sixth, one spot ahead of Harvick.
