HOUSTON — Texas Southern scored a run in the bottom of the 12th inning to complete the three-game series sweep of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday.

Texas Southern (20-21, 8-12 SWAC) scored a run in the seventh inning to take a 1-0 lead, but Tyler Hill’s RBI single in the eighth inning scored Cornelius Williams to tie the game for UAPB (6-32, 5-13).

But Texas Southern held UAPB to seven hits in 12 innings to later win the game, even though the Tigers left 13 men on base. UAPB left eight men on base and only drew one walk in the game.

Stanten Jones took the loss for UAPB as he went 4 2/3 innings in relief. He gave up just two hits and struck out six batters, but he walked six batters.

Redmond Floyd started the game and pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings as he gave up four walks, walked three and struck out one. Vince Newton pitched two innings in relief and gave up one run on two hits, walked one and struck out three.

Ray Hernandez was 4 for 5 with an RBI for Texas Southern and Shane Leftely was 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Denzel Pipkin pitched four perfect innings in relief for the win and struck out six batters.
