Snapper Sinclair, a Feb. 17 allowance winner at Oaklawn, surpassed $1 million in career earnings with a victory in the $750,000 Tourist Mile Stakes for owner Bloom Racing Stable LLC and Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen.

Returning to turf for the first time since October, Snapper Sinclair ($22.80) finished a half-length ahead of Real Story under Julien Leparoux in recording his second career stakes victory. Snapper Sinclair won the $350,000 Fasig-Tipton Turf Showcase Juvenile Stakes in September 2017.

Snapper Sinclair raced three more times at Oaklawn following his February allowance victory, finishing second, beaten a head, in the $350,000 Essex Handicap for older horses March 16. Racing Saturday over a firm course, Snapper Sinclair ran the mile in 1:37.95. The victory, Snapper Sinclair’s fifth from 18 starts overall, raised his career earnings to $1,040,404.

Snapper Sinclair represented one of Asmussen’s 64 victories this year at Oaklawn, the second-highest single-season total in track history. Asmussen has captured four consecutive Oaklawn training titles in 10 overall since 2007. Asmussen also saddled Midnight Bisou to victories in Oaklawn’s $350,000 Azeri Stakes (G2) March 16 and $750,000 Apple Blossom Handicap (G1) April 14. Co-owned by Bloom Racing Stable LLC (Jeff Bloom), Midnight Bisou is the country’s top-rated older female dirt runner after winning her first six starts this year.

Minnesota’s finest

Two Oaklawn winners captured Minnesota-bred stakes races Sunday at Canterbury Park in suburban Minneapolis.

Mr. Jagermeister ($2.80) was a front-running 5 ¼-length winner of the $100,000 Minnesota Sprint Championship for co-owner/trainer Valorie Lund. The 2018 Canterbury Park Horse of the Year was an April 25 allowance winner at Oaklawn. He won the $100,000 Chesapeake Stakes Aug. 17 at Colonial Downs in his next start.

Overall, Mr. Jagermeister has a 10-3-2 record from 17 lifetime starts and earnings of $493,537.

Hot Shot Kid, who broke his maiden on the final day of the 2017 Oaklawn meeting, surpassed $500,000 in career earnings with a front-running four-length victory in the $100,000 Minnesota Classic Championship Stakes at 1 1/16 miles. Hot Shot Kid ($2.20) has a 12-7-1 record from 27 lifetime starts and earnings of $512,198. He is trained by Oaklawn regular Mac Robertson.

Finish Lines

Tyler Baze, who rode eight winners this year at Oaklawn after relocating from Southern California in mid-March, led all jockeys in purse earnings ($885,813) at the 27-day Ellis Park meeting that closed Monday. Baze rode 25 winners to finish second in the standings. Perennial Oaklawn leader Steve Asmussen topped all trainers in starts (149), victories (24) and purse earnings ($875,007). Asmussen was also the meet’s leading owner with five victories. … Break Even, winner of the $150,000 Purple Martin Stakes for 3-year-old female sprinters March 30 at Oaklawn, finished second in the $250,000 Prioress Stakes (G2) Saturday at Saratoga.
