University of Arkansas At Pine Bluff football LB Kolby Watts was named SWAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

In the opening game of the season at TCU, Watts (6-0, 190; Jr., DeSoto, Texas / DeSoto HS) made a career-high 10 tackles (nine solo), with one sack and two tackles for loss.

“I saw toughness (from Kolby),” said UAPB head football coach Cedric Thomas. “He flew around and made a lot of plays for us. He’s one of the guys that have been in the program now going on three years. He was here before we got here…Just to see him take the initiative to lead us defensively was really exciting.”

The Golden Lions battled tough before TCU pulled away late in a 39-7 contest in the season opener for both teams Saturday night at Amon G. Carter Stadium.

UAPB will open SWAC play this week at Alabama A&M. The Bulldogs are coming off a come-from-behind 35-30 win over Morehouse in the Black College Football Hall Of Fame Classic in Canton, Ohio.
