In what started off as a slow game for both squads, the Pine Bluff Zebras came up short against the Cabot Panthers on Friday night by a score of 43-19.
Cabot drove down the field on their first drive and was able to tack on a field goal to gain an early 3-0 lead. Later in the first quarter, Pine Bluff suffered a bad snap that led to a safety, which gave the Panthers a 5-0 lead.
The Zebras remained quiet in the first quarter, but with a good drive in the second quarter, Tyler Foots connected with Xavier Turner for a 5-yard touchdown pass that gave the Zebras a 7-5 lead with 6:34 remaining in the first half.
Cabot answered back after Tyler Gee found De’Kairo Rudolph wide open for a 48-yard touchdown. The Panther score would give them a 12-7 lead with 4:22 left before halftime.
Pine Bluff regained the lead to end the first half after Foots found Turner on a 67-yard touchdown pass for their second of the game. The Zebras led at halftime 13-12.
In the second half, Cabot took their first drive of the 3rd quarter and turned it into points on a 5-yard pass from Gee to Rudolph for a touchdown, giving the Panthers a 19-13 lead.
The Panthers were only able to score a field goal on their next drive as they extended their lead to 22-13. A turnover by the Zebras midway through the third quarter gave Cabot the ball in good field position.
Following the turnover, Cabot scored as Gee hit Gage Morrow for a 20-yard touchdown extending their lead to 29-13 with 5:29 left in the third quarter.
A few scores later, Cabot sealed the game on a touchdown with 2:47 left in the game.
Pine Bluff looks to recover next week as they travel across town to face their rival Watson Chapel.
