Arkansas at Pine Bluff men’s basketball players Shawn Doss and Terrance Banyard were named to the 2019-20 Southwestern Athletic Conference men’s basketball preseason second team as announced Monday by the league office.
Doss (6-5, 185; Jr., Marion, Ark.) appeared in 32 games with 26 starts in averaging 12.7 points (11th/SWAC), 4.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. He posed 20 double-digit scoring games and twice had season-highs in 25 points in games against Alabama State and Alcorn State.
Banyard (6-8, 215; Jr., Milwaukee, Wis.) was named second-team preseason All-SWAC at the center position. Last season, he saw action in 32 games with 27 starts averaging 6.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game (11th/SWAC) while ranking fourth in the conference with 38 blocked shots. He posted his first career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 22 rebounds against Cal Baptist in a triple-overtime win. Banyard scored a career-high 18 points against Prairie View and tallied a career-high four blocks against Grambling St.
In the predicted order of finish, the UAPB men were picked to finished seventh, while the Lady Lions were picked to finish 10th in a poll of the league’s head coaches and sports information contacts.
Men’s basketball will open the season Tuesday, Nov. 5 at South Florida, while women’s basketball will open the season Friday, Nov. 8 at Coastal Carolina.
