MAGNOLIA — Watson Chapel junior Sam Beavers hit a 30-yard field in the third overtime to give the Wildcats a 3-0 victory over Magnolia Friday night at Panther Stadium.


The two team played four scoreless quarters before heading to overtime. Neither offense could sustain drives and both defenses came up big on key plays during the contest.


Magnolia forced Watson Chapel to give the ball over on downs twice in the first half, while the Wildcats’ D’Quavious Franklin came with an interception at the Magnolia 13-yard line. In the third period, the Wildcats came up with a fumble but gave the ball over on down to the Panthers late in the quarter.


Magnolia missed a 31-yard field goal early in the fourth period and Watson Chapel’s Quentin Douglas had an interception late in the quarter.


Both kickers missed field goals in the first overtime period and Beavers’ kick in the second extra period was wide right. Watson Chapel recovered a Magnolia fumble on the Panthers’ offensive possession in the second overtime.


During the third extra period, Magnolia’s Austin Miller missed from 27 yards out and Beavers nailed the game-winner four plays later from 30 yards away.
