HOPE — The White Hall Bulldogs lost a tough 5A-South Conference road game, 27-20, against Hope on Friday night.

Hope (3-6, 2-4 in the 5A-South) struck first on the night with a field goal to give them a 3-0 lead with 8:27 left in the first quarter. The Bulldogs (4-5, 3-3) responded with a 21-yard touchdown run from running back Courtney Anderson to give the Bulldogs a 6-3 lead going into the second quarter.

In the second quarter, Hope would score with 9:25 left to take a 10-6 lead over White Hall. Bulldogs quarterback Kirk Baugh responded with a 24-yard touchdown pass to take back the lead 13-10 with 6:42 left in the second quarter. Hope’s offense then went down the field and kick a field goal to tie the game up 13-13 at halftime.

In the third quarter, White Hall struck first with a 24-yard touchdown run by Baugh, but Hope’s defense clamped down on the Bulldogs for the rest of the game. Hope’s offense scored two unaswered touchdowns to clinch the win.

"We just made way to many mistakes in the red zone," said White Hall head coach Mike Vaughn. "We had four turnovers in the red zone, one being a interception and the other three being fumbles, you can’t win when you do stuff like that. We are going to have to rally the troop and get ready for next week."

Baugh finished the night with 172 yards passing with a touchdown and 77 yards rushing with a touchdown. The Bulldogs leading rusher was Anderson with 105 yards and a touchdown.

With the loss, the Bulldogs playoff hopes are going to come down to beating De Queen next week or Hot Springs Lakeside losing.

"At least we know where we stand now," Vaughn said. "We are going to have to make sure we recover from this to get ourselves into the playoffs."

White Hall go back home next Friday to play the important conference game against De Queen.
