UAPB guard is HBCU All-Star

University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball guard Rashad Williams has been selected for the 2024 HBCU All-Star Game, the event announced Monday.

The game will be played April 7 at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Ariz., and will tip off at noon CDT on CBS and Paramount Plus.

Williams, who was named SWAC Newcomer of the Year, averaged a team-high 17.7 points per game this season. He shot 40.4 percent from the field and 40.5 percent from 3-point range. He was second on the team in assists with 87. He sat out last season after transferring from St. Louis.

Williams will play on Team Ben Wallace, which consists primarily of SWAC players plus two from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, an NCAA Division II HBCU conference.

His teammates will include SWAC Defensive Player of the Year Jordan O'Neal from Jackson State and all-SWAC first teamers PJ Henry of Texas Southern and Jeremiah Kendall of Alcorn State. Two CIAA players, Jaylen Alson of Winston-Salem State and Tre Richardson of Elizabeth City State, are included in the 12-player Team Ben Wallace roster.

They will face Team Rick Mahorn, which consists primarily of athletes from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference but also includes Hampton University and Tennessee State, which do not play in HBCU conferences.

This team will include MEAC 6th Man of the Year Allen Bertrand of Norfolk State, all-MEAC first teamer Fred Cleveland Jr. of North Carolina Central, and all-Ohio Valley Conference second teamer Christian Brown of Tennessee State.
