A 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 43-year-old man early Thursday.

The Pine Bluff Police Department said Friday that detectives had arrested Stephen Peterson, who is a suspect in the death of Willie Purifoy. Peterson was booked in at the W.C. "Dub" Brassell Adult Detention Center in connection with a charge of capital murder.

The police department announced on Facebook that just before 1 a.m. Thursday, officers went to the area of South 27th Avenue and Ash Street because of a report of gunshots. Shortly after the call about the gunfire, another call was received about a person who had been shot at 2702 S. Ash St.

Officers went to the address, where they found Purifoy inside the residence. He had suffered apparent gunshot wounds and was unresponsive, according to police. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson County coroner's office.

This is the city's fifth homicide this year.
