Sheriff's office donates to Foundation

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday presented a $400 donation to the Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation.

The funds were raised during the Sheriff's Office "No Shave November" and "Don't Shave December" Campaigns held in 2023. Sheriff's Office employees were allowed to not shave during these months provided a monetary donation of twenty dollars was made for each month of participation. The funds were presented to Chris Collier, executive director of the Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation by Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr. at Woods' office.

Collier shared with Woods not only his gratitude for the funds being received but also the foundation's mission to promote awareness, encourage timely detection and support improved treatment of prostate cancer in Arkansas through their #SCREENTODAYDONTWAIT campaign. Collier added that prostate cancer is the most diagnosed in the state of Arkansas and the second-leading cause of death.

"The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office believes wholeheartedly in this campaign as we believe it's important to raise awareness of this form of cancer in men," Woods said. "We feel the Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation is the best place for these funds to go. This foundation not only seeks to eradicate this silent killer, but also provide support for those who have been diagnosed. Their offer of various free services, including screenings, provides the opportunity for men to get checked and be made aware of their risks. Through their Patient Navigation and Peer Network they aid in not only navigating the healthcare system for treatment but also a support group of those who have overcome the disease so that they may empower and reassure survivors. We could not think of any better organization to partner with during our campaign and look forward to even more support in the future."
